This book should be required reading for all of our young adults, since it tempers the horror of the holocaust with one survivor’s ability to bring about the need for tolerance and the inherent good in most of us. The author, who suffered unspeakable torture and deliberate cruelty and deprivation and yet managed to convert his abuse to his ability to inspire a new generation, relays his story through flashbacks and current events to relay his inspiring story. We must never forget the horrors of the holocaust, but Ross has helped innumerable American young people put their lives in perspective and go on to become productive, inspiring leaders. He has also been instrumental in creating the Holocaust Museum in Boston, MA. It’s impossible in today’s world to not see parallels in current intolerance, racism and way too many white supremacists, and this book is a stark reminder of what was…and possibly could be… We must never forget.
